Cohiba 1966 are here!

February 2011 seems a long time ago, but that is when I tasted my first Cohiba 1966 Limited Edition. I must admit my first impressions were of a cigar so full of the flavours of ammonia, so acidic, not enjoyable at all. It felt as if it was rolled not more than a week beforehand; which was possibly true. Luckily I brought some back home and let them rest in my humidor.
Having tried one last Saturday night, all I can say is what a change those few months settling down have made. The first thing I noticed was the shiny oily dark wrapper which comes from the top leaves of the Tapado- the shade grown black Cuban tobacco plant. The tobacco leaves selected for this vitola are all from the plantations in San Juan y Martinez and San Luis in the Vuelta Abajo region where they have been aged for a minimum of two years. Because this cigar is rolled by some of the most experienced rollers in Cuba, it is a work of art, a perfectly constructed masterpiece. Those heady flavours of ammonia, have now given way to the spicy earthy flavours accentuated by the soft gentle draw.
We are now pleased to launch these exquisite Cohiba 1966 Limited Editions 2011 onto the Irish market.
