One of the real heavy-weights of the whisky world. Often described as a 'Grand Cru' malt. Unfortunately, demand for this classic often outstrips supply and shortages often occur.

Lagavulin means 'mill in the valley' and it is thought that illegal distilling was taking place as early as 1742. At one time there was a second distillery called Malt Mill sharing the same site. This closed in 1960 and its stills were incorporated into Lagavulin.

The casks are matured in warehouses above the beach and it is thought that this contributes to the fresh, salty, seaweedy nature of Lagavulin
