The Diplomaticos brand dates from the 1960s, and it was the first brand of Cuban cigars that was created after the recolution and was available to the public. The Diplomaticos line used numbers as opposed to names to describe the cigars in the range in the same way as the Montecristo brand. They were originally representing a "value" and lighter alternative to the Montecristo and were launched to target the French market. However, over the years, their blend changed and became unique, gaining many fans worldwide. The flavour profile of the Diplomaticos can be described as medium to full. Only one vitola, the Diplomatico No.2 is currently in production, with the rest of the vitolas having now been discontinued.
