A trio of Irish Whiskeys

A trio of new Irish Whiskeys

October was a very busy month for distilleries around Ireland, as it marked the arrival of three brand new whiskeys, all of which are now available. The Teeling Single Malt, the Glendalough 13 Year Old single malt and the Jameson Caskmates.

Teeling Single MaltCompleting the Teeling Whiskey Trinity of non-age statement whiskeys alongside the Single Grain and the Small Batch, the newly launched Teeling Single Malt is the newest addition to the whiskeys of the Dublin based distillery. A blend of aged, malt whiskeys up to 23 years old that have been matured in Port, Sherry, Madeira, Burgundy and Cabernet cask, the Teeling Single Malt is rich and vibrant, with balanced fruity and spicy flavours and a distinctive character. Like all Teeling Whiskeys, the Teeling Single Malt is non chill filtered and bottled at 46%, which allows it to retain all its natural flavours. We were lucky enough to get a little taster of the Teeling Single Malt before it was released, and we were impressed with it; we love its complex flavours and its long, sweet and woody finish, and how easy it is to drink! Glendalough 13 Year OldShortly after the release of their 7 year old, Glendalough distillery launched another craft Irish Whiskey, the Glendalough 13 year old single malt. An old school Irish Whiskey, the Glendalough 13 year old has  “a style of whiskey that gave Irish whiskey its name in the first place” according to Barry Gallagher, MD of Glendalough Distillery. It’s deep citrus and spicy nose is followed by intense sweet, velvety flavours of dried fruits and cloves with a touch of citrus. The finish is long and lingering with rich spices, deep oak and vanilla fudge. Click here to purchase the new Glendalough 13 year old single malt.

Jameson CaskmatesThe Jameson Caskmates is one of the most intriguing latest releases and the result of an experiment of Jameson’s Master Distiller. The story has it that Jameson’s Distiller met the Master Brewer from Franciscan Wells and an idea was hatched over a few drinks to send Jameson casks to the brewery in order to age their stout. When the casks returned to the distillery, the Master Distiller filled the stout seasoned barrels with Jameson Whiskey and Jameson Caskmates emerged; a classic, smooth Jameson with a twist! We like it; although it looks like a standard Jameson, it has a unique, sweet flavour marzipan, oak and cocoa and an unmistakable smooth after taste of butterscotch and chocolate.
