Like many generations of staff members of James Fox that have worked in the shop in the last 133 years, following the policy of checking all boxes of cigars that come to our shop is our “guilty pleasure”! With a stanley knife on hand, every box gets scrutinized; boxes that we are not happy with are sent back, the rest would be stored away, and, naturally, we would pick our favourite boxes. We have come across some legendary boxes that we would take note of and highly recommend to customers.

While admiring an outstanding box of Belicosos Finos with David, we both agreed that boxes like this should be picked out and sold with out personal warranty and James Fox name. This is when the idea of our “Premium Selection” came to life. The boxes that are chosen to bear our premium selection seal are ones that look and feel outstanding, with plenty of sheen and a great aroma; all the indications of a remarkable cigar.

Our list of Premium Selection cigars in relatively short, only because very few would tick all the boxes. Some have a great aroma, some have a beautiful sheen, some have smooth wrappers and construction, but rarely they will have all the above; only when they do, we take them out of the stack and put them aside.

After picking out the exceptional boxes, we take them aside and remove all the cigars to ensure that both rows -or the centre of the bundle in the case of a cabinet- have the same remarkable characteristics and good construction. The cigars are wrapped in our own ribbon, our seal is affixed on the outside and our personal warranty is inserted in the box.

Each box of Premium Selection cigars is then individually photographed and listed on our website. As each box is listed separately; the box you will see in the photos, you will read about and you will purchase is the box you will receive.
